Diseases discussed at the Aspiring Women in Science Conference, held in Brisbane.

Thank you St Aidan’s for inviting our group member Elle to present at the Aspiring Women in Science conference. The conference was held in Brisbane for school girls in years 9 to 12. It was a great opportunity for students to have their questions answered and gain an insight into pursuing a research career.

Elle had a lot of fun, and enjoyed sharing some of the McCallum Wildlife Disease Ecology group career tips including;

  • Don’t write off maths, you never know when you will need it again.

  • Choose your mentor wisely, listen to their advice, but also question their views from time to time.

  • Know that imposter syndrome is real, but that’s OK.

  • Keep your options broad, and volunteer whenever you can.

We wish all the best to future scientists out there!

More information about the conference can be found here.
